This ride is over private agricultural land. Please respect the land, and those working on it. In particular, in all cases follow the markers, and keep to the field edges (unless directed otherwise). Ride appropriately to avoid unnecessary damage to the ground.

Some fields contain horse jumps. Do NOT attempt to jump them.

HEALTH AND SAFETY. The ground is wet and care should be taken when descending. The roads in this area are very busy, so take care when entering or crossing any road. In particular, if you are riding the longer route (8 miles), take care when crossing the Holywood Road (after leaving Point A – Glenmore Farm, and when you return). You go straight across, but the cars travel very fast. When leaving Cairngaver Farm (after descending from the hill with the three radio masts) you turn right onto Ballybarnes Road for about 1 mile. This can be busy, with some heavy lorries.

ROUTE – 5 miles and 8 miles. Both rides follow the same start, but at Point A – Glenmore Farm – 8 milers do an extra ‘lollipop’ route, returning to Point A – and all riders then return along the same route.

Both routes are marked by orange florescent tape and direction markers.

1. Leave Car Park and turn left. Pass Blakiston Houston Carrowreagh Farm sign, and enter farm by turning left at the upper gate (at galvanised steel railings). Follow farm track up hill. When track stops turn right into a field and follow fence line back to Carrowreagh Road. Turn left and then right after 75 yards. Follow fence lines, go through gate and (passing ruin and large tree to left) descend to river. Cross and ascend to Glenmore Farm Point A. 5 milers turn right (follow directions from 3 below) and 8 milers go straight on.

2. Follow lane to Holywood Road, cross road and into field, then left into farm lane. Follow this lane up the hill and at Point B turn left – ascending Cairngaver Hill (3 radio masts). Descend the hill passing dairy farm on right, then turn right into Ballybarnes Road. Follow road for about 1 mile, then turn right into small private housing estate, exiting in the estate, by turning right and into farmland. Follow the markers, through fields, then onto lanes, crossing the road to the quarry, back to Point B. Then straight on retracing steps across Holywood Road down to Point A and Glenmore Farm.

3. All riders then follow markers (5 milers having turned right and 8 milers having turned left) along farm track, then across field and down a small drop. Turn right to follow fence line, through gate and down towards Old Belfast Road (known locally as Bradshaw’s Brae). Through wooden gate, and immediately right into farm entrance. Up lane (keep off grass) and go through farm, then over a bridge, ascending to gap in hedge, through the gap and straight on following fence line to Carrowreagh Road. Turn left to return to venue.

On return, please check in with stewards to receive your rosette.
