SELECTION POLICY

FOR HOME INTERNATIONAL AND CELTIC CHALLENGE TEAM
1. Prospective Team Members must be active within ILDRA during the year of selection. (At least 5 CTRs must be completed prior to the competitions, 2 of which must be of the same distance or greater than their chosen distance i.e if they wish to ride the 30 mile class they must successfully complete 2 x 30+ CTRs.) This would not be case for the Novice and 50+ miles. To be considered for 50+ classes the rider must have completed 2 x 50 miles CTRs in the same season. (One must be at a qualifying CTR) Novice class – CTRs nust be kept to 30 miles and below.
2. They must put their name and the name(s) of their intended horse(s) forward to either the chef of each team or the team selectors by the end of June 2008 and which class they wish to be considered for.
3. Be prepared to ride if selected. (they should be actively building fitness towards the event and have ensured that the event dates are vacant)
4. They are to notify selectors immediately if any circumstances change and they (or their horse) become unavailable for selection.
If more applications are made than team places available then selection could be based on:
1. The horse and rider meeting the criteria in 1-4 above.
2. The past history of the horse and rider combination over the previous year.
Riders with more than one horse:
1. Riders who wish to use a ‘back-up’ horse should put the names of both (or all) their horses forward.
2. Should the specified horse become unavailable, then that rider’s second horse does not automatically take the first horse’s place. (It may do so, but if a reserve combination is preferable then the selectors may take that choice.)
TEAM CHEFs AND SELECTORS
Qualifying CTRs will include timings, speed, heartbeats, time of vet presentation etc. Team Chefs and selectors will decide this.
Both teams will be chosen by end of June 2008. This will allow team chefs and members to discuss sponsorship, travel arrangements, clothing etc. The team lists will be made available after selection.
If insufficient names are put forward the selectors reserve the right to approach other riders. However this will only be done when the place concerned cannot be filled from within the list of applicants who submitted their names on time.
