ILDRA's Slieveanorra ride, held on Midsummer Day, attracted nine competitive
riders and seventeen pleasure riders.
The course took all riders up through the forest, on excellent tracks, up
over the summit of Slieveanorra, before completing the circuit to the venue.
This meant that everyone was able to appreciate the remarkable panoramic views
from the top of the mountain.
Of the competitive riders, four were riding the twenty-two mile Bronze
Qualifier route and five the thirty-nine mile Silver route. Two competitors who
competed their Silver Shamrock Final at this ride, Emma McBurney and Jemma
McConnel, were riding horses owned by Dorothy Heath, who rode over Slieveanorra
at ILDRA's inaugural competition in 1990.
Vetting on this occasion was done by Bob Smith, a long-term friend to ILDRA,
who very nobly put in a long day, travelling from Newtownstewart to North Antrim
for the ride.
