YOUNG RIDERS SECTION Florence Court 27th August (Junior Championship)
Sunday 27th August was the turn of the Junior Championships held at Florence Court. Kathy Conly and her daughter Kirsten had marked out a different 10 mile route taking riders from the forest into the national trust and back again. Three of our more younger members took on the Horseshoe challenge riding 10 miles aiming to get to the finish between 1hr 16mins and 1hr 36 mins. All 3 achieved this aim so the winner was determined by the horses' heartrate. The winner of this class was Gail McKie on Silken Thomas who was
riding with her mother Valerie. Second place went to Shona Burch on
Scottie who despite taking a wrong turn at the start managed to keep her
father Tim in tow. Tim was riding his trusty steed, his bicycle. Third
place went to Jordan Patterson on Spike who rode along with her mother
Dianne. They then went on to ride another loop to achieve Jordan's Level
3 in her horseshoe log book.
In the Novice class of 30 miles which again went down to heartbeats Michael Parker on his horse Dory took first place. They also achieved Dory's bronze shamrock. Second place went to April O'Raw from Leinster branch. She was riding Galeshill Tarquins Gold and third place went to Hannah Catterall on Miss Elle. They also achieved their bronze shamrock. In the Intermediate class last year's Novice winner Evelyn Moore on Galeshill Zorro took first place. Evelyn was riding with her mother Terri who had driven up from Wicklow that morning. It was a real family affair as Terri's sister Kim joined them for a pleasure ride. Also riding CTR's were - 50miles - George Finlay on Jasione. 30 miles - Lana Chaney - Angus, Maeve Lunny - Sam and Robyn Catterall on Charlie Four Socks. 20 miles - Elaine Burch - Tory, Rosemary York - Akiel. The organisers would like to say a big thank you to Sally and Tim Burch for all their help and to the members of Wicklow for their support.
ILDRA is delighted to announce the launch of the “Horse Shoe Awards” for junior members (in this case, six to twelve year olds).
Horse Shoe Awards are a series of awards which can be completed within the Pleasure Ride sphere. The aim is to introduce junior riders to skills and experiences that will prove useful to them as they progress within the sport – or indeed as they progress on to other equine sports.
